OK, So youve just been told youre the SEO Guru at your new job. The first thing you think is, where on earth should I go from here, and where do I start. Well everyone has gone through this first step, and its hard getting your site up into the God like status in Google, with a good PR. So where do you start: First step is the meta tags. Theyve been there from the beginning of time and will always be there, and to my belief they are just as important as ever. Some may say forget them, they arent that important. But hey, It cant hurt to have them, and yes, they do help. They help with people searching for your website, so that they actually know what your website is! From here, youve heard it before, and Ill say it again! Content is KING. Who wants a web site with no content? And why would a search engine want to find a website with nothing of importance to the world of the web? People are information hungry, and want to know what your website offers. Within all this content, you should make sure that of course, that the content is actually optimised for your website, and actually contains keywords that are relating to your site. Because who wants a website that doesnt actually give you the information that you want? No one. Everyone wants a website, that provides important information. How do you know that it is important? Because it is also within the meta tags. A never ending circle. Keywords to content, content to keywords. Then of course, there is the never ending process of reciprocal linking. Many people have said that it is dead, whilst many say that is alive and thriving. To be successful, SEO consists of a mixture of all types of optimisation. No one thing works, its a mixture of all the different types that get you there, because its a long way to the top, and it takes a while to get there, because its not going to happen over night. Then there are directories. Free or Paid, most people opt for the free way, but, you know, you cant make it to the top if you dont spend money. Buying yourself a listing, helps, as people know that paid listings are spam free, and more relevant to your website. Therefore, you get more important people linking to your website, that are actually interested in it. URL submission, and most importantly submission at the dmoz directory, the most important directory on the internet, it is the largest human edited directory on the internet. And most search engines reference this directory as it is very popular. But then, theres blogging, just getting your website out there and letting the world know what it is. Writing articles, heck, everyone does it, it gets links back to your website, and your providing a service for the rest of the internet to see, so why wouldnt you let the world know how you are making success and what you should do. Link building, more and more and more, its just an ongoing process that will never stop, it may drive you crazy, but with a little hard work, and a lot of patience, you will see your website move up the search engine rankings. So there you have it, a very short and concise way to becoming a SEO guru, and making website success. |
